These
fabulous specimens of traditional robes are from
the people of Uzbekistan & Turkmenistan. Ahal,
Tekkhe, Saryk and Bukharan are represented.
Featured on black, red, red striped and green raw
silk is the unbelievable silk embroidered applique
in stylized flowers, ram horns, crosses, leaves,
floral, animal, eye and geometric motifs, in an
impeccable display of bridal dowry culture. The
bridal coats with embroidery are actually worn as
veils with the long sleeves pinned back, creating a
veil/tent from the coat for the bride. After the
marriage ceremony they are worn only on special
occasions. When worn as veils they are called
"chyrpy". These are all mid or early 20th century.
To be worn the sleeves are often cut as they are
designed long and tapered to a point. You can add
extensions to make the cuffs longer, but I highly
recommend you stay with traditional fabrics of
velvet or silk.
The
coats are lined with beautiful old Russian cottons
(which really come from India) and are hand quilted
onto the outer silk coat. The handwork is nothing
short of phenomenol, these are museum quality
specimens. Please buy with the intention to keep a
lifetime and gift a museum or loved one upon
passing. The price reflects the quality and
collectibility. Dry clean only and handle with care
and gentleness.
Exotic
day wear robes " chapans" are also highly
collectible, decorated and desirable. These are
given as gifts from uncles, aunts, grandparents and
are made from melt in your moth shimmering vintage
silk velvets, raw silk, and loomed wools. The
velvets and silks are a gypsy closet's
dream!
I
wear these robes in my daily life over jeans or
black silk, as well as over costumes. Don't be
surprised when people stop you on the street to
gush and goo! I've always got one on, no matter the
weather, layered or not and people do stop me
constantly. I like the small tailored red silk ones
over jeans and use the wools and velvets mostly as
an overcoat. You can wear them fitted or loose,
either way you'll be in bliss.
***Jessica
my goddessdaughter model and amazing dancer is
5'7", 137 lbs and wears size 9-11 juniors, and 8 -
10 women's coats. Many of these are roomy or snug
depending on size of coat and how you like to wear
it.

I love this style of robe,
its cut more on an A-Line so is flattering to
everyone, plus this piece is long, I just want to
belt it with something cool and live in it. Vintage
Bukharan collectible with traditional Ikat designs
featuring chevrons, birds, rams head and floral
motifs in lovely hues of mustard, brick, turquoise
and creme. A silk cotton blend with long ample bell
cut sleeves and another fabulous vintage floral
lining. Light weight, but no lite weight in the
collectible realm, fine quality.

Fabulous over everything!
Raw silk cherry stripe chapan with my favorite
vintange cotton lining I've ever had. Wanted to
keep it for that reason alone, not to mention the
really cool navy, white and cherry embroidery
embellishing the side slits and front corners .
Fine tradtional navybraided trim around the 3/4
sleeves and front edges. This piece is a bit full
cut in the upper back, if I were to keep it, I
would sew darts to contour into the waist. I live
in these red stripe chapans - see me walking around
da Cruz with them layered under vests, and always
with me jeans and cowboy boots. Like new
condition!

I've held this coat back
for a long time. Its simply regal. The cut is
slimming and perfect, the color indescribable green
with a hint of blue. Heavy quality wool, to die for
Chinese silk aqua lining and heavy traditional
floral Turkoman embroidery encircling the whole of
it and the condition is pristine. It fits me
perfect too.

This
Bukharan beauty was well worth my trouble to get
it. Its actually one robe - believe it or not! The
"outside" is pure lime silk with tiny white and
forest green striping, traditional braid trim edges
sleeves and hem. Lining is a beautiful dusty indigo
field with mauve and creme chrysanthemums and big
burgundy border. Entire piece is hand quilted and
very comfortable. The robe is very long at my ankle
almost and the sleeves completely cover hands.
Perfect for wrapping and belting. Light dirt stains
on the lower front edge of robe (drycleaning will
take care of these) and some very light faded spots
on right arm. Overall very good condition at least
50 years old. The lime silk is DIVINE!

Central Asian luxury in
this breast plated wedding chyrpy of the Tekke
Turkoman. I'm in love with embroidery, but my first
collecting love was and still remains Ethnic
Silver. This museum collection's dream showcases
Turkoman bridal pride with a collar and breastplate
dripping with circular and feather amulets of
nickel silver. The sleeves and hem drip with fringe
all put together over cherry striped silk. Box,
light and showcase on your wall if you collect or
wear if you dare.
Petite - size 7 or
smaller. Sleeves are very slim, you need thin arms
to wear this. I'm in it snug with help to fit over
my hands. I wear size 8/9, 5'5" 136 lbs.

Mint for the collector
speciman. Its never been worn as a coat and I
received it with the sleeves traditional pinned
back with a talisman. You can see the talisman
which most likely has verses of the Koran or sacred
protective herbs sewn into the triangle shaped
amulet (to resemble an eye). The cuffs and gussets
are an incredible mint colored raw silk, with
traditional embroidery. The velvet is a rich
paprika colour and in perfect condition. This was
probably worn only once as a veil with the bride
draped in silver jewelry an it is
LUXURIOUS!!!!.

raw silk chapan is from the unique Saryk tradition,
which boasts small intricate embroidery that is
highly collectible and esteemed. Featuring sacred
eye talismans intricately embroidered applique

braid trim and mini-rams horns motif up the sides.
Cuddly warm due to lovely red and blue floral

unusual, and the cuffs and the gussets are
traditional Turkoman embroidery! The sides are
woven like a rug with cherry colored wool with
incredible ram's horn designs and the lining is
simply the coolest vintage cotton I have every

I happen to be an earth
tone nut, so I have (embarassed smile), two of
these rust/copper penny colored velvet chapans that
I wear year round. Along with the wool chapans it
seems to be the one I pull on daily through all the
seasons. Unlined its the perfect summer, spring,
fall weight and can be layered over sweater in the
winter, the luscious rust colour is like polished
copper and has the traditional forest green velvet
cuffs with traditional Turkoman embroidered trim.
Forest green trim all the way around this weathered
to a velvet melt patina robe. I like the short
above the knee length too.
