When you want the drama and intrigue of powerful hip movement, you need one or both of these, a fabulous wool tassel belt or an embroidered customized vintage saye ghosh with striped lining and silver buttons for drama extraordinaire!
Saye Ghosh Tassel Belts - Vintage "saye ghosh" are pieces of textile wizardry, symbolically rich and traditionally made to cover bedding in Central Asian cultures (Turkmen, Uzbek, Afghan, Kazak). Their unique "v" shape, rich petit point, embroidery and multi colored fringe and tassels all made from cotton, wool, or silk, just happen to work wonderfully as the ultimate hip embellishment. Heavy Hips Tribal Belly Dance were the first to use these this way and if you can snag some for yourself and your troupe, count yourself blessed. We like to wear the point both in front in back! These are vintage used textiles worthy of museum display and like vintage cholis and Turkmen coats are an investment and collectible in their own right. Age is estimated between 25 - 50 years old, I suggest you display them on your wall when not in use but out of sunlight. I have uniquely customized each one by lining it in designer cotton stripes worthy of any textile freak and detailed silver tone button clasps that can be adjusted to fit your hips!! The end result is a one of a kind tassel belt that will rival the best you can find in the tribal belly dance scene! You will love the power that exudes from your hips in one of these! * Note on sizing. These are extremely versatile. I have put a closure in a certain place and will give that as the hip circumference, but these can be adjusted to be smaller and larger, so I also give a range for reduction or expansion.

Wool Tassel Belts - As an artist hand crafting one of a kind wool tassel belts, I'm inspired to use superiour quality materials and the magnificent end result tells the story. I begin with Central Asian tent/yurt strapping or vintage Indian mirror belts for the base, I dye locally produced wool myself or choose hand dyed and spun wools, alpacas, silks - never synthetic yarns for tassels, braids, dreads. I choose colors which mimic natural dyes used for centuries in N.African, Central Asian and Middle Eastern cultures. Tassels, braids or ropes are ample, never skimpy and finishing touches include cowries, vintage coinage and tribal silver. The belt base is then lined in a "gypsy" style floral cotton. I've never spent less than 13 hours on one piece. Each piece stands as a wearable work of art and an investment you'll never regret.

Large suzani bugjama features deep cherry red field smothered in artistic embroidery display in meanders, florals, amulets, leave and spiral. Trimmed to the high heavens with my favorite silver and silk capped tassels. This draped down past the back of the knees fit for royalty. Indigo and Creme braids, dreads and tassels sway from a vintage banjara mirror belt in rust, navy and white w/cowries and aluminium buttons. Donegal wool and alpaca braids and dreads detailed with 300 yr old blue glass dogons from W.Africa. White grossgrain ties. Fits hips sizes 41" to 48".

This one was very hard to put up for sale. I'm an apple green groupy and I found two very special art nouveau buttons for this lovely embroidered specimen. Large floral blocking in cherry, mango and whte on traditional black field, cool stripey trim and fat spirals below and awesome apple green striped lining 10" height. OOOh, very unique, tight cotton needlepoint featuring crosses all way around on medallions of cherry, black, mint, forest and hot pink, w/dark teal netting sporting thick multi-colour tassels with glass beads. This is an amazing suzani type Saye Gosha featuring a delicate vine of lemon and white floral creeper on a too die for cherry field, adorning the hips in excellent embroidery, bordered by white and mango spirals. Traditional green net trim and fat cotton tassels and fat striped lining in tones of cherry, burgundy, creme and sage 10" high. Hips 44", reducible to 36" expandable to 52".

I call this the Gaia drape. I've actually never seen this style of embroidery from Central Asia before, its so figurative and shamanic in feel. Animals, birds, totems, amulets, water, stars and more dance on the deep wine field and circle your sacred core. Finished in a lovely mint green cotton fringe and lined with red and white fine stripes. Lots of mint/wine colring and you will gah gah over the buttons. Another drape to the back of the knees 26". Hips 37" reducible to 33", expandable to 43".
