Thankyou for your encouragement and appreciation of my aesthetic eye for the affordable yet gorgeously drippingly rich small collection of select and vintage ethnographic textiles and silver jewelry. The Gypsy Closet Bazaar is renewing and I'm relenquishing pieces from my personal collection. Quality collectible ethnographic textiles and silver are becoming harder and harder to find and the prices are exhorbitant. The truth is many of the cultures/people of India, Central Asia, North and East Africa, the Middle East and South East Asia who handcraft such beautiful personal and functional items can no longer afford to do so, and the younger generations of such cultures are both forced and enticed to abandon traditional art craft as they simply cannot survive as artisans of ancient traditions in a cutthroat corporate controlled market. I've been collecting for over 20 years and while I don't think its good to be so consumptive I do want to honor and preserve some of the rapidly disappearing skill of hand crafted textiles and silver jewelry.
The inventory will change due to what I can currently find at reasonable prices and what I see through my eye as unique and desirable. The inventory will also be small with one of kind items featured. I will continue to search out the amazing embroidered and mirrored cholis of various "nomadic tribes" of NW India. Remember in general they are very small as they are made for young girls. I will also continue to search for the silk and velvet Turkoman robes and coats, which are fabulous over jeans, or black silk as well as a dance costume and the Turkoman "saye ghosh" the embroidered and fringed "V" textiles so wonderful on hips. My own hand crafted ultimate tribal wool and mirror tassel belts will be featured as well as my own luscious gem toned hand dyed silk hip scarves. Some of you may remember my very own Talismans by Palika - a jewelry line designed with collectible components of old ethnic silver and collectible tribal beads. I will be making a few earrings with old tribal silver hoops and ancient beads as well as offering very select pieces of the real stuff - antique silver bangles and rings from Rajasthani, Bedouin, Berber, Turkoman, Kuchi, Thai, and Arab cultures. Thankyou and remember not to take this for granted, everything changes and moves, like the waves dancing in the ocean. Buy it quick if you see something you love, it won't last long and there won't be another offered!
Finally I ask that you keepsake your purchases and should you decide you no longer want them, ask you to please contact me before you take them to the 2nd hand shop or give them to some one who has no appreciation for their value.
